The Animated Series' Showrunner Has Seen Fans' Second Season Bingo Cards — And She Has Good News
The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
